I'm smitten 02/23/2009

Today I researched bedroom pieces with an eclectic touch for a master bedroom design I'm working on.

In visiting the Drexel Heritage website, I came across their new line, Mixers.
Here are some of my favorite pieces that have me smitten. I can't wait to incorporate them into future projects.

The are available in several painted finishes and awesome hardware options (as shown on the lingerie chest). I personally love the lucite ball pulls.

Every friday, around mid day, I light a few candles to set the tone for Friday, time to unwind. With that said, I'm dedicating this post to my favorite accessory, candle light.

When designing a room, I always incorporate candle light. Simply because I feel it creates a sense of serenity and adds a little sparkle to a room. Here are some of my favorite wall sconces. All from ZGallerie and less than $100. A lot of luxury for a small price.

While flipping through the JC Penny catalog today, I came across these wonderful lamps. The best part is the price, all are less than $100.

I love using ceramic lamps in fun colors, keeps rooms feeling fresh and adds a great surprise element to rooms with neutral palettes.

I also came across this pretty nylon rug and thought it would be such a lovely accent to an entryway or casual dining area. Comes in 10 sizes and 4 color ways.

Here are the "before" pics of my friend Samantha's bedroom. The room is on the small side 11.6x9.6." The positives are that her room leads to the beautiful deck overlooking the large garden. The bedroom also has a large window that keeps the room really bright. The negatives are that it is small and has no closet.

My plan for creating a cozy bedroom that reflects Sam's personality and bright spirit is to use glam mirrored pieces along with a pretty color palette consisting of pale shades of turquoise, whites and black accents.

See the inspiration board below I have created for the room.

As I continue to search for cool furniture on a budget, here are some great pieces I found on UrbanOutfitters.com

In helping my friend Samantha decorate her new apartment on budget, I've come across some fabulous pieces that deserve to be mentioned.
Here are some of my favorite finds-

Target has really stepped it up in the category of affordable, stylish modern furniture.

Also from Target, great upholstered contemporary pieces. I love the stripped headboard, I'd use the storage bench next to it at the foot of the bed for Dorothy Draper look.

Love this Cassandra White Leather Chair from Smart Bargains. As well as the round nail head ottoman below. Would be so amazing to group two chairs with the ottoman as a sitting area in a glam bedroom or living room.

Title Text.

This Siena Antique Black etagere also from SmartBargains, would look really cool flanking a sofa in a office or living room.

This Zambrano wood tray table (SmartBargains) reminded me of a similar table I saw at the Ralph Lauren Showroom. Would look great bunching two side by side in a masculine living room or office. Could also look great in a small bedroom as night stands with a mercury glass lamp on top.

I also found these area rugs on Smart Bargains. Love the deep, rich color palette.

Love the blue/orange swirl pattern on this rug, perfect for a kids room accented with orange floor pillows and navy accents.

The serene, neutral pattern of the rug on the right makes a perfect foundation for any room. So sophisticated and elegant. I've been searching months for the perfect neutral textured rug. Can't believe i found it on Smart Bargains.......

My friend Samantha just moved into a new apartment and has enlisted me to help her decorate her bedroom.

Today I researched inexpensive window treatments for her. Here are some wonderful options I found.

Overstock.com Keva Panel, at $54.99 per panel, this is a glam look for a beer budget. Love the selection of colors.

Dutchess Panel from Overstock is a strong statement but with the right fabric assortment could be wonderful. I particularly love the french blue for a gentleman's bedroom or office.

These Watchhill panels are also from overstock. Would look wonderful in a kids room or funky office design.

Overstock, Gables panel is the perfect shade of seafoam green. It's honeycomb pattern would work great in a bedroom. I could see using it in a teenage girl's room mixed with white modern furniture.

Plaza Panel from ZGallerie could work virtually anywhere. I consider Trellis pattern's the new Greek Key. A Classic that will always be hip.

Roma Panels in Lagoon from Z has me smitten. Love the stripe combination of seafoan and pewter. Would look amazing in a Master bedroom or Living room.

Yesterday I visited the job site of a Kitchen Remodel project I am working on. Much progress has been made. Here are some "before" photos of the kitchen in dire need of a makeover...

The cut out wall shown above was eliminated to create a "U" shaped kitchen, increasing the overall size and functionality. We've also added recessed lights to give the space a modern feel as well as showcase the beautiful cherry cabinets and cashmere granite that will be installed. See demolition picture below where we removed the wall.

Here are the photos I took yesterday.... Significant progress has been made. By the end of this week the kitchen should be complete and ready for it's unveiling. Stay tuned.....
